OUR STORY
Southpaw K9 is a premier dog training facility that was founded in 2021 by retired Master Sergeant, Ryan Davila and Amy Glass.
While spending 20 years in the Air Force, Ryan discovered his passion for training dogs while duck hunting. Seeing a Labrador retriever work while hunting ducks sparked his interest and he soon purchased two lab puppies of his own as he was determined to learn how to work with dogs.
This started his dog-training journey. Ryan got orders to move up to Fairbanks, AK and started working with and helping now good friend and dog trainer Tom Simpson. He was very thankful to be mentored under a professional, and learn what it takes to be a dog trainer and the different behaviors of dogs. He later went on to compete in AKC Field Trials and Hunt Test for retrieving all over the country.
Amy has been working with dogs most of her adult life. She has been a massage therapist for 25 years. Through a lot of those clients she would house sit their dogs, do drop ins, and board for many people around town throughout the years. She is definitely the fun department of the company and has been certified in dog massage and tummy rubs! You will catch all the dogs at Southpaw following her around for some serious play time!
ABOUT THE FACILITY
At SPK9, we take dog training and boarding seriously. Our three acres of land offer space for big and little dogs of all breeds to roam and run and play.

We understand the importance of structured time outside, which is why we have big and small play yards and dog-runs for each dog to enjoy more outdoor time.

With state-of-the-art medical grade air purifiers, indoor kennel temperatures of 68 degrees, music and high standards of cleanliness, we strive for canine comfort. We offer outdoor and indoor lighting, so your pet can enjoy a safe and fun environment, no matter the time of day.

Each dog is always with a human, receives an Airtag for location safety, awarded personalized report cards for detailed information on your dog's behavior and given access to texts, phone calls, etc for information any time you need to check on your animal.

We even offer grooming services and have a mobile vet on standby.

They sent us pics daily, which my daughter LOVED. Their facilities are beautiful, and Dex was well taken care of. They even sent our “wild man”, home with a cute report card….although, I think they fibbed a little when they checked, “moderate energy”. Dexter’s an 80 pound cow dog who is the epitome of ADHD. Lol! If you ever need a place to board your pup, I highly recommend this place.

I have seen Southpaw K9 work well on more than just a couple of dogs, rather a handful. He’s worked one on one with my dog and to be honest I wish I would have had him work with her longer. The dogs Ryan works with are happy, ready to please and a joy to be around! I recommend him for sure, two thumbs up here.
